Many industries and companies REQUIRE ongoing professional development. And measure it with CEU (Continuing Education Units) credits. In an industry as fast-paced as technology, and in particular as social as the Web, in-person conferences and workshops are essential.

If people are not constantly learning and interacting with others in the same field as them, then they will never be able to fully provide the highest quality service to clients. Great post!

I agree on your key points! I think if clients/boss/whoever see me attending classes/seminars/expos/whatever then that shows that I’m proactive about learning more about what I do, and what people in the fields related are doing. I think it show’s a willingness to do better, not a weakness. Good thoughts Craig.
